Richard Skolnik is a Professor of Finance at the School of Business, SUNY Oswego. He holds academic leadership roles including former Dean of the School of Business (2008–2019), MBA Director, and Department Chair of Accounting, Finance, and Law. He is also the School’s CFA Institute liaison and teaches Corporate Finance. Skolnik earned his Ph.D. in Managerial Economics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (1987), with prior degrees in Operations Research, Computer Engineering, and Electrical Engineering from the University of Michigan.
His research focuses on corporate governance, investments, financial regulation, and pedagogy. Notable studies include examining Confucian cultural influences on corporate environmental governance, the impact of China’s auditing standards, and the role of financial self-efficacy in decision-making. He has presented at global conferences, including the International Applied Business Research Conference in Islamabad (2022) and the AACSB Deans Meeting in Vancouver (2019).
Skolnik’s academic contributions span over 30 years, with publications in journals like International Journal of Finance & Banking Studies and Corporate Reputation Review. He has volunteered with the CFA Institute since 1997, contributing to professional standards. His teaching includes FIN 325: Corporate Finance, emphasizing real-world applications through case studies. Administrative expertise includes curriculum development and interdisciplinary collaborations, such as a project blending arts, education, and community engagement (2007).
