Professor Richard Rowe is a Professor of Psychology at the University of Sheffield's School of Psychology, affiliated with the Interdisciplinary Centre of the Social Sciences (ICOSS). His research focuses on understanding risky behaviors in youth, particularly antisocial disorders and road safety, with over 200 peer-reviewed publications. He has led major grants including £587k EPSRC funding for road lighting research and £195k Road Safety Trust funds for Intelligent Speed Assistance promotion.
Rowe's work spans epidemiological studies on adverse childhood experiences, intervention design for conduct disorders, and cross-cultural road safety modeling in Ghana and Iran. He teaches advanced research methods in clinical and occupational psychology, and supervises PhD students addressing topics like sleep apnea-externalizing behavior links and parent-teacher screening discrepancies.
His interventions include randomized controlled trials for driver behavior modification and psychoeducation programs for pediatric cancer patients. He advises UK transport policy organizations and sits on the ESRC Grant Assessment Panel. Current projects explore LED lighting effects on driver performance and the role of sleep quality in antisocial behavior pathways.
