Dr. Richard Pickard is an Assistant Teaching Professor in the Department of English at the University of Victoria. He specializes in environmental humanities, professional communication, and first-year academic writing. His research bridges literature and environmental studies, with a focus on 18th-century poetry, climate change discourse, and non-urban British Columbia narratives.

Research Interests
Dr. Pickard’s work examines intersections between literature and environmental issues. He investigates 18th-century ecological attitudes in poetry, BC forestry narratives, and ideological dimensions of climate change discourse. Recent projects include analyzing forest company statements on climate change and their alignment with BC forestry fiction.
Professional Activities
He served as president of the Association for Literature, Environment, and Culture in Canada (ALECC) and hosted the 2009 ASLE biennial conference at UVic. His publications span environmental criticism, literary analysis, and academic writing pedagogy.
