Heather Tapley is an Associate Professor in the Department of Gender Studies at the University of Victoria (UVic). She specializes in Queer Theory, Feminist Theory, and Cultural Studies, with a focus on destabilizing normative binaries through anti-capitalist frameworks. Dr. Tapley joined UVic in 2007 and is currently on leave. She holds a PhD in English from the University of Alberta (2003).
Her research employs 'monster theory' as an anti-capitalist lens, exploring intersections between marginalized identities and embodied subjectivity. Courses taught include GNDR 206 (Monstrous Women), GNDR 210 (The Zombie in Popular Culture), and GNDR 331 (Queering the Undead). Her work bridges poststructuralism, queer materialism, and critiques of capitalist systems.
Tapley’s publications analyze topics such as hobo masculinities, queer pedagogy, and anti-capitalist literary production. Her writing engages with film, literature, and historical discourse to challenge dominant narratives of value and exclusion.
