Richard Ovenden serves as Bodley's Librarian at the University of Oxford, the senior executive officer of the Bodleian Libraries since 2014, while holding a Professorial Fellowship at Balliol College. Previously, he held leadership roles including Deputy Head of Rare Books at the National Library of Scotland and Head of Special Collections at the University of Edinburgh, where he directed collections and served as Keepership of Special Collections at the Bodleian from 2003-2011.
His research expertise centers on book history, library science, and photographic history, with particular focus on 19th-century Scottish photographers and the material culture of rare books.
