Richard Mourne

Dr. Richard Mourne is a Senior Lecturer in Geography at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol), specifically within the Faculty of Environment and Technology (FET) - Geography and Environmental Management department. He leads the Construction & Property Foundation Year program and has been affiliated with UWE since 1994.

Education:

• BSc(Hons) in Geography & Applied Physics, Manchester Polytechnic (1987)
• PhD in Environmental Science, University of Edinburgh (1993)

Research Interests: Dr. Mourne specializes in geoarchaeology, physical geography, and environmental management. His doctoral work focused on radionuclide measurement in soils as indicators of acidic deposition patterns in Scotland and northern England. He has extensive experience in archaeological excavation and laboratory analysis of cave sediments, including contributions to the Pontnewydd Cave Project with the National Museum of Wales.

Teaching & Roles: Transitioned from part-time roles to full-time lecturer by 2001, he now oversees foundational academic programs while maintaining research in environmental science and interdisciplinary fieldwork.
