Dr Richard Mills is a Senior Lecturer in Biomechanics at Manchester Metropolitan University’s Institute of Sport. His research focuses on postural control mechanisms across the lifespan, particularly in clinical populations like those with Cerebral Palsy, Developmental Coordination Disorder, and Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus. He holds a PhD from the University of Ottawa, MSc from Liverpool John Moores University, and BKin(Hons) from McMaster University.
Dr Mills’ academic career includes completing the PGCLTHE course, earning Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy. His teaching spans undergraduate programs in Sport and Exercise Science and Health and Exercise Science. Research outputs emphasize innovative methodologies, such as Kinect depth camera applications and virtual reality interventions for pediatric populations.
His work bridges biomechanics with clinical practice, addressing balance deficits through biomechanical analysis and intervention design. Recent studies explore dual-task effects on postural control and exergaming for developmental coordination disorder. Collaborations with clinical partners highlight his commitment to translating research into practical solutions.
