Dr. Richard Matthews is an Associate Professor of Medical Ethics at Bond University's Faculty of Health Sciences & Medicine, leading the Health Advocate and Professional Theme at the School of Medicine. He holds a PhD in Philosophy from Queen's University Kingston (1999). His research focuses on medical ethics, health ethics with Indigenous peoples, violence, colonialism, and ecological justice. Notable works include The Absolute Violation: why torture must be prohibited (2008) and recent explorations of genocide ethics and conscientious provision in healthcare.

Research Interests: His work critically examines the ethics of violence, particularly torture and genocide, while advocating for equitable healthcare practices with Indigenous communities.
