Dr. Laura Jean Cameron is a Professor in the Department of Geography and Planning at Queen’s University. She holds a Canada Research Chair (2003-2012) and is affiliated with the Sonic Arts of Place Laboratory. Her work focuses on historical geographies of nature, cultural encounters, and environmental justice. She joined Queen’s in 2003 after completing a Ph.D. in historical geography at the University of Cambridge, supported by a Commonwealth Scholarship.

Research Interests: Dr. Cameron explores the intersections of colonialism, environment, and space. Her projects include SSHRC-funded studies on William W.H. Gunn’s ecological observations, glacier research, and colonial violence in Kingston. She emphasizes decolonizing methodologies and the role of Indigenous knowledges in environmental narratives.
