Dr. Richard Lillington is a Senior Teaching Fellow at Aston University's College of Engineering and Physical Sciences, within the Department of Mechanical, Biomedical & Design Engineering. He holds administrative roles such as Chair of the Institute of Physics' Professional Standards Committee and membership on the Institution of Mechanical Engineers' Academic Standards Committee. Currently, he serves as an External Examiner for Mechanical Engineering at Cardiff University and previously at the University of Hertfordshire.
His research interests focus on pedagogy and experiential learning, alongside technical domains such as sensing and control systems for internal combustion engines, electro-mechanical integration, and mechanical design. He actively collaborates with industry to advance undergraduate and postgraduate projects in engine design, emissions reduction, and systems efficiency.
Professional memberships include Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (FIMechE), Chartered Engineer (CEng), Member of the Institute of Physics (MInstP, CPhys), and Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA).
Teaching expertise spans Mechanical Engineering Design, Control Theory, Electro-mechanical Design, and Gas Turbine Design. He is open to supervising PhD students in areas such as engine sensing, systems integration, and emissions improvement.
