Dr. Richard Levi Lubman is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the Keck School of Medicine of USC, holding dual academic appointments in the Department of Physical Therapy and Biokinesiology and the Department of Physiology and Biophysics. He also served as a Visiting Professor at Imperial College London's Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine Centre (2004). Clinically, he serves as an attending physician at Keck Hospital of USC, USC/Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center, and LAC+USC Medical Center.
His research focuses on alveolar epithelial cell biology, ion transport mechanisms, and extracellular matrix interactions. He has authored over 60 peer-reviewed articles, contributed to book chapters, and delivered lectures across the U.S. and Canada. His work has been supported by grants for 13 research studies, reflecting his expertise in respiratory physiology and cell signaling.
Dr. Lubman has received numerous awards, including the American Heart Association Initial Investigator (1993-1995), Parker B. Francis Foundation Fellowship (1988-1991), and scholarships from New York State Regents and Cornell.
His research highlights include studies on alveolar epithelial cell polarity, extracellular matrix-driven differentiation, and the role of growth factors like KGF in modulating cell function. His clinical interests align with his research, emphasizing translational applications in pulmonary medicine.
