Richard L. Ehman is a Professor of Radiology at Mayo Clinic, renowned for pioneering magnetic resonance elastography (MRE) and advancing MRI technologies. His work focuses on noninvasive tissue characterization, with over 40 patents and 600+ publications. He leads research in vascular imaging, biomechanical properties of tissues, and early cancer detection. Dr. Ehman has held leadership roles including President of the Radiological Society of North America (2017) and chairs key committees at Mayo Clinic. His honors include induction into the National Academy of Medicine (2010) and multiple gold medals for research contributions.
Education: MD from the University of Saskatchewan, followed by radiology residency at the University of Calgary and fellowships at Mayo Clinic and UCSF in MRI. He holds the Blanche Erlanger Professorship (2015) and NIH MERIT Award (2016).
Research interests span MRI innovation, vascular flow dynamics, and translational applications of elastography. His grants include funding from NCI, NIBIB, and the National Institute of Aging. Current projects explore brain mechanics in Alzheimer’s and MRE for uterine adenomyosis diagnostics.
