Dr. Allen Ye is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Radiology at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) School of Medicine. He completed his medical and doctoral training through the Medical Scientist Training Program at the University of Illinois Chicago, earning both an MD and PhD in Bioengineering. Following his internship at St. Francis Hospital, he completed diagnostic radiology residency and neuroradiology fellowship at UCSF.
Dr. Ye's educational background includes a BS in Biomedical Engineering from Case Western Reserve University (2009), a PhD in Bioengineering from University of Illinois - Chicago (2015), and an MD from University of Illinois - Chicago (2017). His postgraduate training includes a Transitional Year at St. Francis Hospital (2018), Diagnostic Radiology Residency at UCSF (2022), and Neuroradiology Fellowship at UCSF (2023).
Dr. Ye's research focuses on the utilization and application of advanced magnetic resonance imaging techniques such as anomalous diffusion, elastography, and connectomics in the clinical setting. He has translated these techniques for better characterization of vascular, neurodegenerative, and psychiatric diseases. Dr. Ye also has a strong interest in trauma research, particularly in cervical spine trauma classification and MRI utility in isolated prevertebral edema cases. His work bridges engineering principles with clinical radiology applications, with a particular emphasis on developing novel imaging biomarkers.
His recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on diffusion imaging applications across multiple neurological domains, with papers spanning from spinal cord imaging to brain connectome analysis. His research spans multiple disciplines including medical imaging, neuroscience, biomedical engineering, and clinical radiology, with particular emphasis on translating advanced imaging techniques to clinical practice.
- Clinical Fellow of the Year, UCSF, 2023
- Emergency Medicine Intern Merit Award, Presence St. Francis, 2018
- St. Francis Hospital Intern of the Month, Presence St. Francis, 2017
- Dr. Edward P. Cohen Medical Scientist Training Award, University of Illinois at Chicago, 2017
- Finalist for UIC Image of Research, University of Illinois at Chicago, 2015
Dr. Ye has served as director of the Resident Informatics Team and as a representative on the AIIMS (PACS) Steering Committee at UCSF. His interdisciplinary background in bioengineering and medicine enables him to bridge the gap between technical innovation and clinical practice in radiology. He has been involved in NIH T32 research training and continues to contribute to both clinical care and research advancement in the field of medical imaging.
His laboratory work focuses on developing and validating advanced MRI techniques that can provide more precise diagnostic information for neurological conditions. Through collaborations with both engineering and clinical departments, Dr. Ye's team works to translate sophisticated imaging methodologies into practical clinical applications that can improve patient diagnosis and management.
