Richard Hurford is a Senior Lecturer in Performance, Games, Animation, and Music at the University of South Wales. He serves as Course Leader for the MA Games Enterprise and Module Lead for the BA (Hons) Computer Games Design courses since 2008. His expertise spans games design processes, industry trends, and wearable technology research. Richard is also the UK Games Fund Tranzfuser South Wales Hub co-ordinator, fostering talent pipelines for the UK games sector. He actively contributes to Games Wales and the Computer Games Design alumni community.

His research focuses on games curriculum innovation, wearable technology applications, and interactive design. He co-authored influential papers on smart clothing and led projects merging product development with digital services. His work bridges academic and industry practices, emphasizing student readiness for professional roles.
Richard’s Tranzfuser initiative provides £5,000 grants to student teams, culminating in EGX showcases and potential £25,000 expansions. USW’s participation since 2016 has yielded winning teams in 2017. He also serves as an External Examiner at University of Portsmouth and Middlesex University.
Formerly a Research Assistant at the Smart Clothes & Wearable Technology Research Group, his contributions include conference presentations and a book chapter on wearable tech. He remains involved in creative clusters like the Audience of the Future Demonstrator Programme.
