Richard Hawley is a Senior Lecturer (Teaching Focussed) in the Department of Classics at Royal Holloway, University of London, with additional affiliations to the Hellenic Institute, Centre for Oratory and Rhetoric (COR), and Gender Institute. With nearly 25 years of experience, he teaches Greek and Latin language, literature, and social history at all levels, integrating transferable skills training and employability initiatives.
His research centers on identity construction in antiquity, including gender, ethnicity, and rhetoric, with current projects on Plutarch's Banquet of the Seven Sages and a monograph about gender sources. He also explores classical reception in cinema, music, and education.
