Richard GP Lopata

Richard GP Lopata is a Professor at Eindhoven University of Technology within the Department of Biomedical Engineering, leading the PULS/e Lab (Photoacoustics & Ultrasound Laboratory Eindhoven). His research focuses on advanced ultrasound and photoacoustic imaging technologies for clinical applications in cardiovascular, musculoskeletal, and obstetric medicine.

He has developed 2D/3D ultrasound strain imaging, photoacoustic techniques for atherosclerotic plaque assessment, and patient-specific biomechanical models of arteries. His work emphasizes clinical translation through collaborations with institutions like Radboudumc, Maastricht UMC, and industry partners.

Recent publications highlight innovations in multi-perspective ultrasound, spectral photoacoustic analysis, and machine learning applications for vascular diagnostics. His awards include the ERC Starting Grant, NWO-TTW VENI/VIDI, and multiple BME Teacher Awards.

He has mentored over 80 MSc and 28 PhD students, currently guiding 18 PhD candidates, 2 postdocs, and 7 MSc students in the rapidly expanding PULS/e group. His projects include Third tier MEDEIA/TKI-HTSM, PISANO/TKI/PPS/BMT, and MEDUSA/TKI-HTSM/20.0295.
