Richard G Compton is a Professor of Chemistry at the University of Oxford and serves as Tutor in Chemistry at St John's College. His academic journey began with a PhD at Imperial College London in 1980. Compton leads groundbreaking research in electrochemistry, chemical sensing, and nanochemical applications, including marine phytoplankton detection and biogenic CaCO3 dissolution mechanisms.
- Key research domains: Electrochemistry, Chemical Sensing, Nanochemistry, Marine Biogeochemistry
- Honorary positions: Central South University and Xiangtan Universities (Hunan, PRC)
- Editorial leadership: Founding Editor-in-Chief of Electrochemistry Communications, Co-Editor-in-Chief of Current Opinion in Electrochemistry
His innovations in pH sensors and food detection technology, commercialized via Zimmer & Peacock, earned global recognition. Compton has authored over 1500 papers (h=103), co-authored the textbook Understanding Voltammetry, and contributed to the historical work A G Stromberg - First Class Scientist, Second Class Citizen.
