Richard Dittus

Richard Dittus, Sr., Ed.D., serves as a Senior Lecturer in Mathematics at Ave Maria University, where he has taught since 2004 and held leadership roles such as Director of Admissions, Director of the Student Success Program, and architect of the Sophomore Success QEP. His career spans academia, financial services, and education innovation.

• Education: B.A. in Mathematics and Social Science (Fordham University), M.S. in Education with Science and Mathematics specialization (Fordham University), and Ed.D. in Education with Higher Education Leadership specialization (Nova Southeastern University).

Dr. Dittus’ research focuses on mentoring and developmental advising, particularly their impact on academic progress and retention of at-risk sophomore students. He pioneered the CliftonStrengths-based mentoring program and learning communities like the College Algebra Club to enhance student success.

His work in the financial services industry involved reengineering pension systems, designing corporate software methodologies, and facilitating strategic planning sessions. Notable achievements include developing an actuarial-based expert system and leading the MetLife Project Management Facilitation team.

Dr. Dittus remains actively engaged in academic advising, directs the Sophomore Success Program, and supports student growth through the First-Year Experience Program and Founders Scholarship Program. He has been married to Kathy for over 45 years, with six children and ten grandchildren, all deeply connected to Ave Maria University.
