Dr. Richard C. Murray is the Judy and Randy Wilbourn Odyssey Associate Professor of Biology at Hendrix College. He serves as Program Chair for both the Biochemistry/Molecular Biology Program and the Neuroscience/The Study of the Mind Program. He holds a Ph.D. (1997) and B.Sc. (1990) from the University of Western Ontario. His teaching responsibilities include courses such as Cell Biology, Genetics, Developmental Biology, and Cellular and Molecular Neuroscience. He chairs the Biology Department and oversees facilities like the Donald W. Reynolds Life Science Center, which includes labs for undergraduate research, greenhouse facilities, and animal care. Dr. Murray is affiliated with the Arkansas Garden initiative and the Gulf Coast Research Lab partnership. His academic contributions emphasize undergraduate research mentorship and liberal arts education in biology.
Research interests align with his teaching areas, including cellular processes, neurobiology, and developmental mechanisms. He supports student research through programs like the TriBeta grants and pre-professional health resources. The Biology Department under his leadership emphasizes interdisciplinary training and prepares students for graduate or medical programs.
