Dr. Richard Bakken serves as an Adjunct Professor at Harvard University's Graduate School of Design (GSD) and holds the role of Chief Information Officer (CIO) for the GSD. He oversees technology systems supporting the school's operations and participates in Harvard's CIO Council and campus technology committees. His academic background includes a PhD in Leadership Studies from the University of San Diego, an MA from the University of Phoenix, and a BA from Wisconsin Lutheran College.
His research focuses on student learning experiences in Western universities, particularly in international contexts (e.g., Doha, Qatar), and the role of technology in addressing student needs. He has extensive administrative experience, including roles at Stanford University, Princeton University, and Wisconsin Lutheran College. Additionally, he has media production and on-air journalism experience with WTMJ radio.
Outside academia, Dr. Bakken enjoys music technology, stamp collecting, and world travel.
