Dr. Richard Badger is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Education at the University of Leeds, part of the Faculty of Social Sciences. His work focuses on second language writing, academic literacy, and the role of technology—including LLMs like ChatGPT—in language learning. He teaches courses in language development for TESOL and technology-enhanced language learning.
His research interests include:
- Teaching second language writing
- Academic literacy and authenticity in IELTS/TOEFL
- Corpus linguistics
- Communicative language teaching
- Input and intake in language acquisition
- Technology-enhanced language learning
Recent research outputs highlight his engagement with cutting-edge topics such as AI in academic writing and the discourse of public health communication. His work spans international contexts including the UK, India, China, Malaysia, Nigeria, and Algeria.
