Richard B. Lipton, M.D., is a Professor in multiple departments at Albert Einstein College of Medicine: Neurology, Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, and Epidemiology & Population Health. He holds the Edwin S. Lowe Chair in Neurology and serves as Vice Chair of the Saul R. Korey Department of Neurology and Director of the Montefiore Headache Center. His research focuses on migraine headaches, cognitive aging, Alzheimer’s disease, and dementia, with emphasis on pain/stress effects on brain function. He leads the NIH-funded Einstein Aging Study and collaborates on multiple R01 grants.
Education: MD from University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine; neurology residency and clinical neurophysiology fellowship at Einstein; neuroepidemiology fellowship at Columbia University.
Research interests include epidemiology of migraine, clinical trials, and biomarkers of cognitive decline. He has published over 800 articles, many with trainees, and authored 11 books. Leadership roles include Past-President of the American Headache Society and editorial board memberships (e.g., Neurology).
Awards include 5 H.G. Wolff Awards and 2 Enrico Greppi Awards. He mentors students/fellows, having guided 7 CRTP students and 10 K-award recipients over the last decade.
