Richard A. Reinhardt

Richard A. Reinhardt, DDS, PhD, is a Professor and Co-Director of Undergraduate Periodontics at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) College of Dentistry's Department of Surgical Specialties. He holds academic appointments including Director of several periodontology courses and co-directorships in clinical training programs. His research focuses on immunoregulation of inflammation and bone metabolism, particularly in periodontal disease and regenerative therapies. He also serves as a Senior Dental Consultant for Ameritas Group in Lincoln, NE.

Dr. Reinhardt's education includes a DDS from UNMC, an MS from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and a PhD from the University of Nebraska-Omaha. His research has explored simvastatin's role in bone regeneration, periodontal maintenance efficacy, and novel drug delivery systems like thermoresponsive hydrogels. He has led or co-authored over 30 peer-reviewed articles between 2018-2023, focusing on pharmacological interventions and biomaterials for periodontal and bone health.

His recent publications highlight clinical trials on simvastatin effects in periodontal therapy, minocycline microspheres for inflammation control, and hydrogel-based drug delivery systems. Key grants include projects on simvastatin prodrugs, temporomandibular joint arthritis treatments, and alveolar bone regeneration strategies.
