Rich Dionne is a Clinical Associate Professor within the Department of Theatre at Purdue University's Patti & Rusty Rueff School of Design, Art, and Performance. His expertise lies in scenery automation and show control systems, bridging the art of theatre with engineering principles. He co-authored Theatrical Design and Production and authored Project Planning for the Stage.
Research Interests focus on technical theatre systems, scenic engineering, and pedagogical approaches integrating problem-based learning with studio instruction. His work emphasizes collaborative innovation in multidisciplinary environments.
Selected Publications include studies on learner-centered polytechnic education models (2015) and applications of realized theatrical productions as educational tools (2009). His scholarship explores intersections between technology, performance, and pedagogy.
As founding Faculty Fellow of the Purdue Polytechnic Institute, Dionne contributes to curriculum development that blends technical theatre with interdisciplinary educational frameworks. He has extensive experience as technical director for professional theatre companies including The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey and Berkshire Theatre Festival.
