Rich Brown serves as Professor of Acting and Movement and Chair of the Theatre & Dance department at Western Washington University, where he has taught since 2006. His expertise spans psychophysical acting, Suzuki methodology, Viewpoints, commedia, and theatrical devising.
His academic credentials include:
- PhD from University of Oregon
- MA from Central Missouri State University
- BA from Graceland College
Brown's research focuses on collaborative creation processes in theatre, with particular emphasis on devising techniques and actor training methodologies. His international work includes leading Viewpoints & Devising Intensives at Romania's National Theatre in Bucharest and multiple U.S. institutions including Bucknell University and Lewis & Clark College. He bridges academic scholarship with professional practice through his association with NYC's Blessed Unrest theatre company.
His distinguished recognition includes:
