Riccardo Vecellio Segate is a socio-legal researcher and policy consultant specializing in technology regulation, public international law, bioethics, and intellectual property rights, with a focus on EU and East/Southeast Asia. He is currently a PostDoc in epistemic injustice at the University of Groningen's Faculty of Economics and Business. Previously, he held roles at The Alan Turing Institute and the University of Dundee. His research spans over 45 publications, including highly cited works on AI in international criminal justice and robotics law. He has been on editorial boards for journals like Data & Policy and participates in IEEE standardization efforts. His work is globally recognized, cited by institutions such as the South Korea National Assembly and Hangzhou Intermediate People’s Court.
Education highlights include a PhD in International Law (University of Macau), LLM in Public International Law (Utrecht University), and degrees in European Governance and Piano Performance. He is also pursuing a BEng in Industrial Engineering at Polytechnic University of Milan.
Research interests include technology regulation, comparative law in Asia, smart robotics, EU law, environmental law, and digital evidence. He has held visiting positions at UC Berkeley, Tsinghua Law School, and others. Awards include the 2019 Best Young Scholar Paper Prize.
