معرفی
Riccardo Longo is a Research Scientist in the Department of Physics at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, affiliated with the Grainger College of Engineering. He holds roles as Technical Coordinator of the ATLAS Zero Degree Calorimeter, Project Leader for the ATLAS Reaction Plane Detector, and Co-PI of the joint ATLAS/CMS ZDC upgrade for the High-Luminosity LHC. His research focuses on Quark-Gluon Plasma studies via hard probes, heavy ion physics, and forward physics. Longo earned his Ph.D. from the University of Turin in 2018 with work on spin effects in pion-induced Drell-Yan reactions at CERN's COMPASS experiment.
His career includes postdoctoral roles at UIUC and CERN, contributing to ATLAS Heavy Ion programs. He has pioneered supercomputing applications for particle data analysis and led hardware projects for LHC detectors. Research interests span jet-based measurements in nucleus-nucleus collisions, forward calorimetry, and Electron-Ion Collider applications.
Recent articles highlight advancements in Drell-Yan spin asymmetries, dijet production in p-Pb collisions, and detector design for HL-LHC. Awards include the Carlo Castagnoli Award (2017) for scientific industriousness and the Rita Levi Montalcini Fellowship (2024). Longo has also contributed to organizing international conferences and serves on professional committees like the APS GIMS Nomination Committee.
