Rhodri Mansell is a Research Fellow in the Department of Applied Physics at Aalto University, specializing in Nanomagnetism and Spintronics. He holds a Doctoral degree from the University of Cambridge (2010). His research focuses on magnetic materials, spintronics, thin films, and voltage-controlled magnetism, with applications in neuromorphic computing and energy storage. Mansell has led multiple Academy of Finland-funded projects, including 'Designer spin interfaces through electric field control,' exploring interfaces for magnetic and electric field applications.
His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to sustainable energy and innovation. Key research themes include perpendicular magnetic anisotropy, skyrmion dynamics, and magnetoionics. Mansell has collaborated internationally, visiting institutions like Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and BESSY II Synchrotron Facility. Notable contributions include studies on voltage-controlled magnetic properties and synaptic devices using magnetoionics.
Mansell has published over 20 peer-reviewed articles, with recent work emphasizing neuromorphic computing and solid-state ionics. His research bridges materials science, condensed matter physics, and engineering, aiming to advance next-generation magnetic and spintronic technologies.
