Professor Reza Kouhy is a Professor of Energy and Environmental Accounting at Edinburgh Business School, Heriot-Watt University. He holds leadership roles such as former Head of the Department of Accountancy, Economics and Finance (AEF). His academic journey includes roles at Abertay University (2010–2022), Glasgow Caledonian University (2005–2010), and the University of Dundee (1991–2005). He has extensive industry experience as a senior auditor and consultant in Tehran before academia.
Education: PhD in Accounting, University of Dundee (1989).
Research focuses on Renewable Energy Accounting, Oil and Gas Sustainability, Social/Environmental Reporting, and Human Asset Valuation. His work bridges accounting practices with environmental and economic challenges in energy sectors. Recent studies analyze oil revenue implications in Nigeria, Venezuela, and Norway using econometric models.
Awards include the 2012 Impact of Research Award for seminal work on UK corporate social/environmental reporting and 2010 Highly Commended Paper on HR policies and organizational performance.
Grants include a £44,200 British Council project on Energy Security and a £82,953 KTP project on Human Resource Valuation. He has supervised numerous PhD/MSc students and delivered international workshops on innovation and sustainability in Kazakhstan and Nigeria.
External roles include Visiting Professorships at Cyprus International Institute of Management and University of Abertay Dundee. He actively engages with global institutions like the Oil and Gas Innovation Centre and presents at international forums.
