Reza Karimpour is a research fellow and contracted lecturer at the University of Genoa, Italy, based in the Dipartimento di ingegneria navale, elettrica, elettronica e delle telecomunicazioni (DITEN). He teaches the Ship Propulsion course in the Maritime Science and Technology degree programme and conducts funded research on sustainable maritime energy systems.
Research interests revolve around maritime-energy interaction, with emphasis on:
- Onshore power supply (cold-ironing) and port electrification,
- Circular-economy frameworks for port-city redevelopment,
- Hybrid ship-propulsion architectures for emission reduction,
- Simulation-based education for shipboard energy-management training.
His recent outputs analyse technical, economic and policy facets of supplying shore-side electricity to vessels at berth, quantify social benefits of emission abatement in north-west Italian ports, and integrate circular-economy modelling to steer ports toward energy self-sufficiency.
