Reza Askari

Prof. Reza Askari is a jazz bass faculty member at the University of Music Würzburg. Born in 1986 in Fulda to an Iranian father and German mother, he began playing piano at age 5 and discovered the electric bass at 11, launching his musical career in local punk and jazz bands.

• Studied electric bass (2006–2012) and double bass at the Cologne University of Music and Dance, graduating with honors.
• Master of Improvising Arts (2014) from Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen, summa cum laude.

He was a member of the State Youth Jazz Orchestra of Hesse (2007–2010) and the Federal Jazz Orchestra/European Masterclass Big Band (2010–2011). As a bandleader, Askari released two albums with his trio ROAR (2017, 2020) and a third album Roar feat. Christopher Dell (2022). He has collaborated with artists including Marc Ducret, Lee Konitz, and Max Mutzke, touring globally across Asia, the Americas, and Europe.
