Prof. Dr. Reyn van Ewijk holds the Chair of Statistics and Econometrics at the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU), within the Faculty of Law, Economics and Politics. His research focuses on econometric analysis of health and socioeconomic outcomes, particularly investigating prenatal environmental exposures, cultural practices like Ramadan fasting during pregnancy, and public health interventions.
Key areas of investigation include long-term health impacts of early-life conditions, climate-health intersections, and policy evaluations of screening programs like the SEAL initiative for liver disease detection. His work combines advanced statistical methods with interdisciplinary approaches in epidemiology, demography, and education policy.
Prof. van Ewijk has been extensively involved in designing and analyzing large-scale observational studies, including population-based cohort analyses and systematic reviews. His recent publications emphasize causal inference techniques applied to questions of maternal-fetal health, pandemic response strategies, and intergenerational health effects.
He teaches advanced econometrics courses such as Microeconometrics, Causal Inference Techniques, and Health Econometrics at both undergraduate and graduate levels. His academic service includes organizing the Brown Bag Seminar and Faculty Seminar series within his department.
