Dr. Reshma Silvester is a Research Fellow in Environmental Microbiology at Bangor University’s School of Environmental and Natural Sciences. Her work focuses on antimicrobial resistance (AMR), wastewater microbiology, and environmental pathogen surveillance. She holds a PhD in Marine Sciences from Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT), an MSc in Applied Microbiology from Madras Christian College, and a BSc in Microbiology from Mahatma Gandhi University.
- Education:
- PhD: Microbiology (Marine Sciences), Cochin University of Science and Technology, 2018
- MSc: Applied Microbiology, Madras Christian College (University of Madras), 2011
- BSc: Microbiology, Mahatma Gandhi University, 2009
Her research interests include metagenomic analysis of hospital and environmental wastewater, tracking AMR genes and pathogens, and understanding their ecological and public health implications. She has conducted national-scale studies on hospital wastewater contamination and Vibrio species in coastal ecosystems.
Her recent work emphasizes the environmental burden of antibiotic resistance and the role of wastewater treatment plants in mitigating pathogen spread. Collaborations include projects like “Harnessing Digital AMR: Advancing Research on ESKAPEE Pathogens and Antimicrobial Resistance in Hospital Wastewater.”
Dr. Silvester leads a team investigating microbial diversity in coastal and estuarine environments, with a focus on food safety and marine microbial ecology.
