Renée Silverman is an Associate Professor of Spanish at Florida International University (FIU), affiliated with the Modern Languages Department in the College of Arts and Sciences. Her research focuses on Spanish and Latin-American poetry, avant-garde movements, and cultural memory studies. She holds a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from the University of Michigan, complemented by a Master’s and Bachelor’s from the same and Brown University respectively.
Her scholarship bridges literary theory and visual culture, particularly examining how modernist poets redefined geographical and cultural landscapes. Notable works include Mapping the Landscape, Remapping the Text (2014) and co-edited volumes on Mediterranean modernism and Futurism in Latin America. Her 2021 article on Lorca’s syncretic Cuban influences showcases her expertise in transcultural analysis.

As a mentor, she has advised four Ph.D. candidates including David Canela and Ramón Muñiz Sarmiento. Her research extends into collaborative projects like the 2014 exhibition Modern Beauty? exploring machine aesthetics through the Trans-Siberian Railroad theme.
