Renia Ehrenfeucht is a Professor and Associate Dean for Research at the University of New Mexico School of Architecture + Planning. She is actively involved in urban planning research, focusing on public space dynamics, shrinking cities, and socially equitable urbanism. As the Central Region Representative on the Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning (ACSP) Governing Board, she contributes to national planning discourse.

Her research examines how everyday urban practices shape environments, analyzing topics like sidewalk politics, climate relocation, gentrification in shrinking cities, and street vending policies. Recent work includes studies on transformative climate relocation, adaptive migration in Louisiana, and sustainable urban forms post-disaster.
Dr. Ehrenfeucht has authored or co-authored over a dozen journal articles and two seminal books: Sidewalks: Conflict and Negotiation in Public Space (MIT Press) and Urban Revitalization: Remaking Cities in a Changing World (Routledge). She has also contributed chapters on inclusive city design, street culture, and post-disaster recovery.
Current projects include climate adaptation initiatives with the Department of the Interior and NSF-funded sustainability research in rural-urban systems. She actively engages in community planning through roles like the Albuquerque Affordable Housing Coalition and advisory positions on urban design competitions.
