Professor Renee Timmers is a Professor of Music Psychology at the University of Sheffield's School of Languages, Arts and Societies. She holds degrees in Musicology (MA, Amsterdam) and Psychology (PhD, Nijmegen), with interdisciplinary research experience across music, psychology, and computer science. She leads the cross-faculty Muses, Mind, Machine research centre, focusing on how arts enhance human flourishing through collaborations with industry and academia.
Her research spans emotional responses to music, expression in performance, cross-cultural studies (e.g., Japanese vs. UK perceptions), music for health (dementia, sleep), and inclusive singing practices. She supervises PhD students in topics like singing for respiratory health and cross-cultural emotion perception.
