Renee Kaufmann is an Associate Professor and Acting Associate Dean for Graduate Programs in Communication at the School of Information Science within the College of Communication and Information at the University of Kentucky. She holds a Ph.D. (2014), M.A. (2011), and B.S. in Education (2004), all from the University of Kentucky. Her research focuses on instructional communication, online learning dynamics, and technology integration in education. She leads initiatives in health communication and oversees graduate certificate programs.
Key research areas include online discussion effectiveness, webcam usage in virtual classrooms, AI in educational administration, and instructor-student interactions. Her work addresses challenges like technostress, student motivation, and equity in STEM education through projects funded by the National Science Foundation. Notable contributions include studies on engineering student wellness and cultural change in academic programs.
Renee has received the Instructional Development Division Top Paper Award (2021) for her impactful scholarship. She collaborates on grants such as the Engineering Wellness Center (NSF-funded) to improve student success and mental health. Her expertise spans pedagogical innovation, digital learning environments, and fostering inclusive academic spaces.
