Renee Carey is a Senior Research Fellow at the School of Population and Global Health, University of Western Australia (UWA), and holds a Casual Teaching role in Multi-Discipline. She also serves as a Senior Lecturer at Curtin University. Her research focuses on occupational and cancer epidemiology, particularly the future burden of cancer from occupational and lifestyle exposures, migrant worker hazards, and silica-related health risks. She holds a PhD from Murdoch University.
Renee has secured over $2 million in research grants as a Chief Investigator, including contributions to the Australian Workplace Exposures Study (AWES2). She collaborates with organizations like trade unions, the Lung Foundation, and Cancer Councils to advocate for occupational safety policies, notably influencing the ban on engineered stone.
Her work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals, emphasizing good health and well-being (SDG 3) and decent work (SDG 8). She actively engages in public health advocacy, policy development, and multidisciplinary research teams.
