Renee Boss is the Rembrandt Foundation Professor of Pediatric Palliative Care and Professor of Pediatrics at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, affiliated with the Johns Hopkins Berman Institute of Bioethics. She specializes in neonatal palliative care and critical care neonatology, with expertise in clinician-to-parent communication. Dr. Boss leads the Pediatric Chronic Critical Illness Collaborative, a multi-center research group addressing care for children with prolonged hospitalizations.
Education: MD from Boston University School of Medicine, residency in Pediatrics at the University of Arizona College of Medicine, and a Neonatology fellowship at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.
Research interests include neonatal palliative care, pediatric chronic critical illness, and ethical challenges in community support for children with medical complexity. She has published in journals such as the American Journal of Medicine, Journal of Palliative Medicine, and Pediatrics.
Awards include the Young Investigators Award from the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine. She chairs the Palliative Care Working Group in her division and participates in initiatives like the Ventilator Nurse Training (VeNT) Program and studies on medical foster care for children with complex needs.
