Dr. Renda Ross is an Associate Professor in the Department of Social Work at Capital University. With over 25 years of clinical experience and teaching in higher education, she is licensed by the Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapy Board with supervisory endorsement. At Capital University, Dr. Ross has served as Social Work Field Education Director (1999-2006) and as Department Chair/BSW Program Director from 2007-2014. In 2010, she oversaw the department's reaccreditation by the Council on Social Work Education-Commission on Reaccreditation.
Dr. Ross's educational background includes:
- Doctorate in Human Development & Family Science from The Ohio State University, with equivalent hours in Psychology & Family Therapy
- Master of Social Work (Clinical Track) from The Ohio State University
- Bachelor of Arts in Human Ecology - Family Science and Child Development from Louisiana Tech University
Dr. Ross's research and clinical expertise focus on evidence-based practices in behavioral health and wellness. Her primary areas include working with individuals, couples, and groups, with special emphasis on family therapy, ADHD assessment and treatment, and multicultural contexts. She maintains a private practice in Worthington, Ohio, where she provides services for relationship issues, ADHD, and wellness planning. Dr. Ross is particularly interested in exploring engagement, participation, and leadership within multi-cultural contexts through her work with the Harmony Project.
Analysis of Dr. Ross's recent publications reveals a strong focus on social work education, ADHD research, and interdisciplinary approaches to understanding human behavior. Her work consistently bridges theory and practice, with particular attention to assessment methods, ethical considerations, and multicultural perspectives. Dr. Ross has received the Gerhold Award for her research on multicultural engagement and leadership. Her scholarly contributions have been presented at numerous national conferences including the Association for Psychological Science and the National Association of Social Workers conferences.
As an educator, Dr. Ross has mentored numerous students through field education and research opportunities. She has developed innovative approaches to social work education, including the creation of the NASW-OH Annual Conference poster session in 2009. Her teaching portfolio includes courses on Micro-Practice with Individuals and Couples, Mezzo-Practice with Families and Groups, Field Education Seminar, Human Behavior & the Social Environment, and Social Science Research Methods.
Dr. Ross is actively involved with the National Association of Social Workers-Ohio Chapter and serves on Capital University's Undergraduate Symposium Committee. She previously chaired the Faculty Development Committee and has been instrumental in developing interdisciplinary educational initiatives at Capital University.
