Renato Menezes Silva

Renato Menezes Silva, DDS, MS, PhD, is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Endodontics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine. He holds additional roles as Senior Associate Dean and maintains a faculty practice focused on endodontics. Previously, he served as an Assistant Professor (2007-2011) and later Associate Professor/Chair at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston until 2022.

Dr. Silva's educational background includes a DDS from the University Gama Filho in Brazil (1994), an MS in Endodontics (2002) and PhD in Oral Sciences (2006) from the University of São Paulo, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship in Human Molecular Genetics at the University of Pittsburgh.

His research interests span endodontics, human genetics, and oral sciences. Key areas include root resorption mechanisms, inflammation pathways in apical periodontitis, and the impact of viral infections like SARS-CoV-2 on dental pulp pathophysiology. His work emphasizes translational studies linking molecular biology to clinical outcomes in endodontic care.

Dr. Silva has contributed to advancements in endodontic sealers' adhesion mechanisms and irrigation protocols. He is a board-certified endodontist and actively involved in academic leadership, shaping dental education and research initiatives at Pitt.
