Renato Camurri is a Full Professor in Contemporary History (HIST-03/A) at the University of Verona's Department of Cultures and Civilizations, where he serves as Department Director. His academic work spans multiple European research frameworks including Cultural history, Intellectual history, Global/transnational/comparative history, and History of ideas.
Professor Camurri earned his Political Science degree from the University of Bologna in 1986, completed his PhD in Contemporary History at the University of Turin in 1992, and conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Venice from 1993-1995. He has been invited to teach and conduct research at numerous prestigious institutions including Valencia, Madrid (Complutense), Paris institutions (Panthéon-Sorbonne, EHESS, École Normale Supérieure), Lyon, Oxford, Harvard, MIT, Yale, Columbia, Toronto, and the European University Institute.
His research program focuses on European elites and ruling classes of the 19th-20th centuries, examining power structures across national boundaries. He has pioneered work on cultural migration and exile, particularly among intellectuals and political figures. His transatlantic studies explore intellectual exchanges between Europe and America, while his work on 20th century intellectual history investigates key thinkers and movements. Camurri has made significant contributions to transnational anti-fascist history and biographical studies through correspondence analysis.

Professor Camurri directs numerous research projects including 'PRATICHE, LINGUAGGI E TEORIE DELLA DELEGITTIMAZIONE POLITICA NELL'EUROPA CONTEMPORANEA' (2013), 'Emigrazione, esilio e deligittimazione politica' (2013), 'Elites e classi dirigenti nel'Europa contemporanea' (2010), and 'Culture politiche e trasformazioni della società nella crisi del liberalismo europeo' (2006). He coordinates PhD programs in Archaeology, Art History and History and serves on multiple teaching boards for historical studies.
Since November 2020, Camurri has directed the Center for European Studies at the University of Verona. His teaching portfolio includes Contemporary History I, History of Historiography, and Wars and politics of memory for Master's programs, along with Contemporary History modules for Humanities bachelor's degrees.
