Professor Renate Schubert is Professor Emeritus of Economics at ETH Zurich's Department of Humanities, Social and Political Sciences. Her research examines risk perception, decision-making under uncertainty, and behavioral interventions in environmental and energy policy. She founded ETH's Institute for Environmental Decisions and served as ETH's Gender Delegate.
Her interdisciplinary work bridges economics, psychology, and sustainability science, addressing climate change adaptation, energy conservation, and pro-environmental behavior. She emphasizes policy-relevant insights for low-carbon transitions and resilience planning.
Schubert has held leadership roles including Chair of the German Advisory Council on Global Change (2004–2008) and membership in the Swiss Federal Economic Policy Commission. She advises international organizations on sustainable development and gender equity in STEM.
Her teaching covers behavioral economics, environmental policy, and development economics, fostering critical thinking in technology-society interfaces. Current projects explore digital nudges for sustainable consumption and climate risk communication.
