Dr. Renate Jaschke has been a research associate in Japanese Studies at the University of Trier since April 2009. She previously held roles as academic lecturer, senior research fellow at ETH Zürich, and project leader on Volkswagen-Foundation and JSPS-funded initiatives. Her work bridges literary studies, media analysis, and intercultural research.

Research interests
Dr. Jaschke’s scholarship focuses on modern Japanese literature, particularly the representation of Burakumin minorities, intercultural encounters depicted in literature and screen media, and evolving memory cultures surrounding the Asia-Pacific War. She analyses television dramas, film, and manga to investigate how Japanese society negotiates identity, diversity, and historical remembrance.
