Renata Raccanelli is an Associate Professor in the Department of Cultures and Civilizations at the University of Verona. She specializes in Latin language and literature, with particular expertise in archaic Latin theatre, ethical and political thought, pragmatics of communication, and symbolic representations of relationships.
Her research interests include:
- Communication in Latin literary texts, between ancient theories and praxis
- Symbolic representations of relationships (kinship, amicitia, citizenship)
- Methodologies for the study of communication in Latin literary texts
- Ethic and political thought in late-republican and imperial age
- Latin theatre, particularly forms of communication in Latin comedy
Professor Raccanelli teaches various courses related to Latin literature and language across multiple degree programs including Didactics of Latin Language and Culture, Latin literature (i), and Latin literature (p) for Bachelor's degrees in Cultural Heritage and Humanities, as well as for the Master's degree in Tradition and Interpretation of Literary Texts.
She leads the research group 'Comunicazione gestuale negli autori latini' which studies forms of verbal and non-verbal communication in Latin texts across various literary genres.
Her research projects demonstrate long-term commitment to her field, with active projects including:
- Breaking the Silence: Exploring Human-Animal Interactions in the Classical World (2024)
- PRIN 2022: The mask between rituality and theatre (2023)
- La gestualità nelle Satire di Orazio (2021)
Administratively, she serves as the Referent for the Joint Committee of Teachers-Students in Cultures and Civilizations and represents the University in the Scientific Committee of CIISP - International Interuniversity Center for Plautine Studies.
