Dr. Renata Grossi is a Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Law, University of Technology Sydney (UTS), where she has been employed since June 2017. She is an interdisciplinary scholar whose work bridges legal theory, emotion studies, and feminist perspectives. Her academic profile demonstrates a sustained engagement with how emotional dimensions shape legal reasoning and doctrine, particularly in the context of contract law and intimate relationships.
Her research interests span several interconnected domains:
- Law and emotion, particularly examining how emotional dimensions challenge traditional legal rationality
- Contract law, with a focus on moving beyond classical and neo-classical theories
- The relationship between romantic love and legal discourse, especially in marriage contexts
- Feminist methodological approaches to legal scholarship
- The intersection of social justice and contract law
Dr. Grossi's recent publications reveal a trajectory that increasingly connects contract theory with broader social justice concerns. Her work on #MeToo and contract law demonstrates how power dynamics in intimate relationships parallel those in contractual agreements. She is currently leading research on counseling service contracts in Australia, examining how therapeutic relationships are structured through legal agreements. Her scholarship consistently challenges the market-oriented paradigm of contract law, suggesting alternative frameworks that incorporate emotional and relational dimensions.
Dr. Grossi has secured research funding through the Socio-Legal Studies Association for her project 'When Contract Law goes to Therapy' (2022-2024), which she co-leads with colleague D. Carter. This project exemplifies her commitment to exploring the therapeutic potential of contract law beyond traditional market frameworks.
