Dr. Rekha Nath is an Associate Professor of Philosophy at the University of Alabama, specializing in social and political philosophy. She holds a PhD from the University of Melbourne and a BA from the University of Michigan. Her research focuses on global justice, equality, and the social stigma surrounding fatness, arguing that such stigma constitutes a structural injustice. She has authored the book *Why It’s OK to Be Fat* (Routledge, 2024) and published extensively in journals like *Bioethics* and *The Journal of Ethics*.
Dr. Nath teaches courses on oppression, international law, and local justice. Her teaching emphasizes critical analysis of systems of inequality, including racism, sexism, and sizism. She also engages in service-learning initiatives, such as *Local Justice*, which connects theoretical frameworks with community service.
Her work bridges philosophical theory and applied ethics, addressing issues like responsibility in global health, institutional fairness, and the ethics of violence in international contexts. She critiques traditional narratives framing fatness as a moral or medical failing, advocating instead for frameworks recognizing fat stigma as akin to other systemic oppressions.
