Dr. Reinhard Kopanski is a Researcher at University of Siegen, currently leading the DFG project 'Music, Religion, and Politics – Conservatism in the Musical Practice of Evangelical Christians in Rap, Pop, and Metal'.
Academic background combines music, media and political science studies with professional audio production experience. Doctoral research analyzed references to National Socialism in popular music, published as 'References to National Socialism in Popular Music' (2022).
Research examines conservatism in music subcultures, political music analysis, and evangelical engagement with contemporary genres. Previously coordinated the Volkswagen Foundation project 'Popular Music and the Rise of Populism in Europe'.
Publications explore far-right symbolism in metal, Christian music markets, and intermediality in black metal.
