Dr. Reinhard Hempelmann has been a Lecturer at the Theological Faculty of the University of Leipzig since 2003. In this capacity he teaches Religious Studies and denominational pluralization, engaging students in dialogue among Christian and non-Christian worldviews.
Educational background:
- Studied Protestant Theology in Bethel and Heidelberg.
- Vicariate in Bielefeld-Brackwede.
- Doctorate from the Faculty of Theology at the University of Heidelberg with the dissertation “Sacrament as a Place of Mediation of Salvation.”
His research interests revolve around processes of pluralization within Christianity, contemporary religious and ideological culture, and sacramental theology. He explores how Protestant perspectives interact with other denominations and worldviews, aiming to understand societal pluralization and the diversity of community formations.
Dr. Hempelmann has also served as Head of the Evangelical Central Office for Worldview Questions (EZW) from 1992 to 1998 and as advisor for new religious and spiritual movements from 1980 to 1984. Earlier in his career he worked as a research assistant at the University of Osnabrück and taught theology at the YMCA Secretarial School in Kassel.
