Rein Terje Thorstensen

Rein Terje Thorstensen is a Professor in the Department of Engineering Sciences at the University of Agder (UiA), Norway. He serves as Head of the Civil and Structural section and leads the research group "Construction and Building Materials" (uia.no/cbm). Additionally, he leads "Application Area Construction" within UiA's Top Research Center Mechatronics and is a member of the "PhD Programme Committee Engineering" (PPCE). His work focuses on civil engineering, structural engineering and construction materials with an emphasis on sustainability.

He has published extensively on topics related to concrete sludge recycling, cement substitution with industrial by-products, and the environmental impacts of construction materials.

Thorstensen is actively involved in engineering education and has published multiple papers on educational approaches including student peer review systems, industrial networks in engineering education, and societal responsibility in engineering training. He also contributes to the field through his membership in various research groups including Intelligent Mechatronics (iTron) and Construction and Building Materials.
